Javi Martínez was examined by Spanish physician Dr Ramon Cugat in Barcelona on Tuesday in the presence of Dr Ernst-Otto Münch. The initial diagnosis of minor damage to the meniscus in his left knee was confirmed.
A surgical repair was carried out successfully by Dr Cugat and Dr Münch.
Martínez faces a lay-off of about four weeks.
