Friday evening’s Extraordinary General Meeting focused on the election of a new FCB Executive Committee headed by Karl Hopfner and featured an emotional speech by Uli Hoeneß. However, at just after half-past eight Karl-Heinz Rummenigge crowned the evening with the announcement of some welcome news: “Our goalkeeper Manuel Neuer has today extended his contract until 30 June 2019.”
Neuer’s current contract was due to expire in 2016. The fact that the 28-year-old has inked a three-year extension at this point in time, just two days after Bayern’s Champions League semi-final exit, was “astonishing and top-class,” Rummenigge declared. “It's also a mark of his wonderful character, because he’s said: I want Bayern Munich forever! I’d like to thank Manuel Neuer very warmly for this.“
