Hopfner Excited by Plans for a New Arena

Munich’s city council gave their seal of approval to a project to build a new arena, suitable for both ice hockey and basketball, in the city’s Olympiapark with a capacity of at least 10,000. FC Bayern München club President Karl Hopfner spoke about the plans: “We are delighted with this step regarding the building of a new ice hockey arena in the city in which basketball can also be played. In the coming months we will speak with Red Bull to establish how our professional basketball players will be integrated into such an arena. Regardless of what happens, we will continue to train at the Audi Dome and it will also be the home of our youth teams.”

The new arena will be built on the site of the former velodrome, which is located near the current home of Munich’s ice hockey team EHC Red Bull. The costs will be covered entirely by Red Bull; FCBB will be tenants of the new arena.
