REACTION TO WOLFSBURG V BAYERN

FC Bayern have taken another crucial step towards a fourth Bundesliga title in a row after the Reds prevailed at Wolfsburg on Saturday. “All credit to my team,” Pep Guardiola commented, happy with the 2-0 away victory: “We knew it would be difficult to play in Wolfsburg four days after Juventus.” Scorer Robert Lewandowski was relieved too, glad about “three very important points.”

Pep Guardiola: “All credit to my team. We knew it would be difficult to play in Wolfsburg four days after Juventus. We started very well, but then didn't attack resolutely enough. In the second half the inclusion of Thiago helped us. Also Franck Ribéry was crucial with his quality in one-on-ones. The first goal made it a bit easier for us. In addition, Manuel Neuer made some good saves.”

Robert Lewandowski: “I'm glad we've won and that I've scored once again. We stayed patient. Wolfsburg played very defensively and waited for the one counter-attack. We were the better team. It's not that easy after away matches in the Champions League. We've achieved everything we had planned. These are three very important points for us.”

Dieter Hecking (Wolfsburg coach): “We knew Bayern would go for it from the start, but we still didn't get a grip at first. After 15 minutes the team started to put up resistance. The opener resulted from a situation that doesn't necessarily have to lead to a goal. After the second goal at the latest it was very hard to strike back.”

Klaus Allofs (Wolfsburg chief executive): “It was a decent performance, but we didn't score at the decisive moments. You have to make use of your chances, that's the only way to be successful against Bayern. We made it too easy for them to score.”
