No Copa Final for Pizarro

Claudio Pizarro and Peru have missed out on a place in the Copa America final after the FCB striker and his national team fell 2-1 to hosts Chile in Monday night’s semi, Eduardo Vargas firing the match-winning brace for Chile on 42 and 64 minutes. Peru, who played with ten men from the 20th minute onwards after a red card for Carlos Zambrano, cancelled out Vargas’ opener thanks to a Gary Medel own goal on the hour. Pizarro featured as a 73rd minute substitute. Los Incas now contest Friday’s third-place play-off, while Chile pursue their dream of a maiden Copa America triumph at the 37th time of asking when they face the winners of Tuesday’s Argentina-Paraguay semi-final clash in Saturday’s final.
